I Can Give Away All My Rocks Now!

Been thinking about "constant" all week. Not much is constant in our world today.

Some things are, though! I have come to learn that (while I do have a precious husband and family that are always there and pretty constant) there's only one thing I can truly rely on to be rock-solidly constant, with self-abandon. The only thing that will definitely be there till the end. The only thing in which to put my trust. My Constant One!

I came across a scripture this week that has been a rhema for me!

You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in You. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal.

— Isaiah 26:3–4

I got to thinking about rocks. I collect rocks. I have rocks from places of significance in my life. I pick up a rock and take it home with me whenever I have a very special moment, or a place that I want to remember. And people have started giving me rocks…

I have rocks from several places in Africa, Vietnam, England, Israel, several states in North America, fossils of ferns and shells – I even have a piece of the Great Wall of China! A favorite one is a grey stone that I found on a riverbed in Mpumalanga, South Africa. What made me pick it up are the melted cracks that run through it, from a combination of intense heat and hydrostatic pressure. Even my kitchen countertops are made of rock, for heaven's sake!!!

The point is that they have been on the earth for… who knows how long… and will continue to be on the earth for… who knows how long?

For thousands of years man has used rocks for safe shelter, tools, weapons/ammunition, leverage, landmarks, guidance, a source of wealth, adornment, medicine, body piercing – and the list can go on.

Today we use rocks for shaping our yards, buildings, glue, perfumes, lotions, cosmetics, soaps, detergents. Who knew?! The fossilization of organic remains has preserved many events in history and helps man piece together events they would otherwise never have known about. So many fascinating things about rocks!

There are many other references to God as "the Rock". The name Rock refers to the fact that God is the foundation of everything. He alone is immovable and unbreakable. He is the Rock of Ages. He is the only sure foundation on which I can rely. God is the foundation for our lives that will not crumble.

He is as solid as your favorite rock. He has been there from the beginning and will be there for eternity. And as long as I trust in Him, I will have that power too.

God is my favorite rock now. In Him will I trust. Whenever I have doubt, whenever I have fear, whenever I feel insecure, whenever Satan attacks me – I will hide in God my Rock.

Now I know why I have always had a fascination for rocks. It was in preparation for this day; for the day when this facet of the character of God dropped the 14 inches from my brain to my heart. My Lord has a way of doing that for us. He knows all things; He prepares us for things to come without us even knowing it. All we have to do is be obedient to the still small voice within and wait for Him to come to us.

I can give away all my rocks now.

Oh, and there will always be death and taxes. (At least death doesn't get worse every year.)

Some other scriptures: Deuteronomy 32:4, 15, 18; Deuteronomy 32:30–31 (I love this one in The Message); Psalm 28:1; Isaiah 44:8. So many more…

I asked for wisdom… and God gave me problems to solve.

I asked for prosperity… and God gave me brains and the strength to work.

I asked for courage… and God gave me danger to overcome.

I asked for love… and God gave me troubled people to help.

I asked for favors… and God gave me opportunities.

I received nothing I wanted.

I received everything I needed.

My prayer has been answered.
